A Race to Remember: Melbourne Cup Day at Millrace Aged Care Hostel and Haddington Nursing Home
The countdown has been real! Anticipation and excitement bubbled up at both the Millrace Aged Care Hostel and the Haddington Nursing Home as they prepared to revel in the iconic event that grips the nation – The Melbourne Cup. Year after year, our senior residents never fail to mirror the enthusiasm the entire country feels during the 'race that stops a nation'.
This year, on Melbourne Cup Day, we pushed the boat out with scrumptious spreads and vibrant festivities, further proof that aged care doesn't mean 'aged fun'. On November 2nd, residents at both Millrace Aged Care Hostel and Haddington Nursing Home spent the day engaging in traditional Melbourne Cup Day celebrations and ended it on a sweet note, reaffirming the popular belief that life does get better with age.
Next, with wide-brimmed hats and stylish fascinators perched, everyone tuned into the exciting build-up of the 3pm race. A sweepstake was organized, further fueling the competitive spirit amongst our residents.While the Cup kicked off at 3pm, our games and events ran throughout the afternoon.
What Melbourne Cup Day would be complete without a traditional afternoon tea? So, following the race, we served a lovely spread to the residents.
Whether they picked the winner, placed, or showed, there were no losers here. Every resident was treated to an exceptional Melbourne Cup Day experience, filled with community spirit, enjoyment, and conviviality. After all, in this vibrant family that includes Millrace Aged Care Hostel and Haddington Nursing Home, the key is in ensuring our seniors enjoy their golden years in fun, friendship, and style.
